How to use Instagram without an account

Updated

Short answer

On instagram.com you can open public profiles and posts without logging in, but Instagram asks you to sign in after a few pages and doesn't show stories at all. A viewer like this one shows public stories, highlights and posts with no account.

What works on instagram.com without logging in

Instagram's website still shows some public content to visitors who aren't signed in. The details change often, but at the time of writing:

  • A direct link to a public post or reel usually opens.
  • A public profile shows its name, bio, counts and a few rows of posts.
  • Posts embedded on other websites play normally.

After a short time, a sign-up prompt covers the page. Scrolling further, searching, or opening more posts brings it back.

What needs an account

  • Stories and highlights, even on public accounts.
  • Search, and the Explore page.
  • Follower and following lists.
  • The Instagram app itself, which can't be used at all without signing in.

Viewing public stories and profiles with no account

The Instagram story viewer on this site shows the public parts of an account without any login: stories from the last 24 hours, highlights, the latest posts and reels, and the full-size profile photo. Enter a username or paste a profile link, and the page opens without prompts.

It works on any browser, on phones and computers, and nothing is installed. Private accounts stay private: only their name, photo, bio and counts are shown.

Finding the right username

Without an account you can't use Instagram's search. The quickest route is usually a search engine: type the person's or brand's name followed by "Instagram". More ways to find a username.

Your privacy without an account

Browsing without an account means Instagram has nothing to connect your viewing to. On this site, story views aren't added to anyone's viewer list, and we never ask for an Instagram login. If a site does ask for your Instagram password, leave: there's no legitimate reason for a viewer to need it.

Try it

Enter a public account's username to watch its stories without being seen.
